Welcome to day three of my four days of sharing alternatives to the August 2020 World’s Greatest Paper Pumpkin kit. On the first day, I mentioned that I didn’t have much use for the trophy or medal elements of this kit, because I had no children or grandchildren who were at that stage of their life. But, then, I took another look at the stamp set and the ‘Teacher’ stamp leaped out at me. I do know the World’s Greatest Teacher- my daughter who is a gifted teacher!
ALternative Card #8 – World’s Greatest Teacher
This card is the one that is most like the instructions in the kit, but not quite the same. I used the Pacific Point ink spot that game with the kit and the trophy. I also used the ribbon, vellum leaves and gold stars. On a day, when she’s feeling down because things are so hard for teachers during this pandemic, I’ll give it to her so that she knows she really is a great teacher.
Alternative Card #9 – You Deserve a Medal
I have to say, I really, really like the background on these cards. One trick I do is to cut the cards in half. I don’t really need the back of the card to be fancy. By cutting them in half I can get two cards with the pattern on them instead of one by adding some of my own cardstock as I’ve done here. I started with a Mint Macaron base which I layered with Bumblebee. Finally I put the cardstock from the kit on top.
Another thing I like to do with these alternatives is to use up some of my old ribbon and embellishments. It gives me the opportunity to use up some of my stash and shows you how to use up yours. For this card, I used some retired Mint Macaron Sheer Linen Ribbon, which I wrapped around twice. I put the focal layers on top of the ribbon, and then added a bow of the same ribbon to the focal layers.
The focal layers are Bumblebee cardstock cut with the Stitched Shape Dies. Then a layer of Mint Macaron cut with the Layering Circle dies. On top of that is one of the gold foil elements from the kit. And I topped it with one of the Whisper White circles from the kit on which I stamped the sentiment in Mint Macaron ink.
I finished the card with some of the stars from the kit.I really like the green, yellow and gold together. It’s a color combo that I’ll have to use again sometime.
Alternative Card #10 – You’re The Best
This is my least favorite of my alternatives. I like the way the negative space from the Pacific Point circle is used on an angle and how the Pacific Point circle is still there. I like the combination of the blue card front on the green card base. But, I’m not crazy about the way the gold and vellum leaves are arranged. It’s not a bad card, just not my favorite.
Once again, I used some retired ribbon to create the bow. This time it was some Mint Macaron textile ribbon. I do like the bow.
The gold leaves from the Forever Gold Laser-Cut Designer Series Paper look good with the gold backing of the sentiment. I wish I had put them all around or off to each side. And, as I’ve done with previous cards, I used the gold stars as embellishments.
I hope you’re enjoying this series of alternative cards for the August Paper Pumpkin. Tomorrow will be the last day for sharing. I’ve put the supplies I’ve used in creating them down below. They link to my online store in case you’d like to purchase them.
If you haven’t subscribed to Paper Pumpkin, you really should consider it. I like that it’s a surprise every month. And it challenges my creativity to come up with interesting ways to use the elements. I do a monthly, on line Paper Pumpkin Party on the last Friday of the month. If you register in advance, you’ll get the supplies to make 4 of the alternates. To subscribe to Paper Pumpkin, click on the image below.
