As soon as I saw the sketch for The Paper Players this week, I knew just what I wanted to do. The Little Ladybug and the striped pattern from the Golden Honey Specialty DSP seemed perfect for this sketch. Take a look.
And here is the sketch that inspired it.
Here is a close-up of my card so that you can see the details.
When I first saw the Golden Honey DSP, I knew that I wanted to play around with coloring some of the patterns. So I took my Dark Real Red Blend and the striped pattern and started coloring, leaving the center section uncolored. Then I cut out a frame using the stitched rectangle dies. I stamped the focal point on Whisper White, colored it with my blends and then cut it with the matching dies that are part of the Product Coordination offering. To make the ladybug and flower pop, I colored the dots and flower center with fine-tipped glue. It gives them depth and shine. You just want to reach out and touch them.
I also framed the DSP with a piece of Basic Black cardstock. It grounds the stripes and makes them pop.
You can Make It, Too!
Little Ladybug
Instructions
- Fold a 5 1/2" X 8 1/2" piece of Real Red cardstock in half. Crease with a bone folder to get a good crease.
- Cut a piece of 5 1/16" X 3 13/16" from the striped pattern from the Golden Honey DSP.
- Use the Dark Real Red Blends to color the bottom and top rows. I colored 4 of each.
- Attach the DSP to a piece of 5 1/4" X 4" piece of Basic Black cardstock.
- Attach the Basic Black cardstock to the card front.
- Cut a frame from Basic Black cardstock using two of the Stitched Rectangle dies.
- Attach the frame to the card front using Tombow Mulitpurpose glue.
- Attach a piece of 5 1/16" X 3/13/16" Whisper White cardstock to a piece of 5 1/4" X 4" piece of Basic Black cardstock. This will go on the inside of the card.
- Stamp the lady bug on the inside Whisper White layer, the envelope front and a scrap piece of Whisper White card stock using Momento Tuxedo Black ink.
- Color the lady bug using the blends listed in the supply list at the end of this post.
- 'Color' the black dots using fine-tipped glue. Set aside to dry. You may need to use a heat tool to finish drying.
- Stamp the flower on the scrap piece of Whisper White cardstock using Momento Tuxedo Blaack ink.
- Color the flower using the blends listed in the supply list at the end of this post.
- Stamp the inside sentiment on the inside Whisper White layer using Momento Tuxedo Black ink.
- Attach the inside layers to the inside of the card.
- Stamp the outside sentiment on a Whisper White scrap using Momento Tuxedo Black ink.
- Cut out the lady bug and flower using the lady bugs dies.
- Attach the lady bug and flower to the card front using Dimensionals.
- Cut out the outside sentiment using the Stitched Shapes dies.
- Attach the outside sentiment to the card front.
Make The Inside Pretty
For the inside of this card, I layered Whisper White on top of Basic Black. Then I stamped and colored the ladybug. And, finally, I stamped the sentiment using Momento Tuxedo Black ink. I also added the fine-tipped glue to the spots just like on the front. It just makes the inside tie back to the front. What do you think?
Don’t Forget the Envelope
I used the same ladybug on the front of the envelope and colored it with my blends. The blends lay down such intense color that they can bleed through and leave a mess on the other side of the envelope. I’ve solved that problem by putting a scrap of Whisper White in the envelope. The bleed through goes on the scrap and not on the other side of the envelope!
Here’s one final look at the card with its envelope.
I hope you enjoyed today’s card. If you ever have any questions, please feel free to comment or email me. And don’t forget to Pin it so you can find it again!
